This beach should be called 

Stingray Beach ⛱️ . Every step you take watch out for stingrays, not that you can see them usually. And they refuse to post signs warning people about them because then they lose the tourist income. People freak out too easily. 

I've been stung at least three or four times and it is extremely painful. One time I saw a young girl get stung and she was in pain and her mom told her "don't be a baby". The mom was clueless.

It's a LOT WORSE than a bee sting or thorn. The lifeguards DO have hot water in case you get stung. Usually I would go back to my car where I can heat up water on my little portable stove and just soak my foot for 2 or 3 hours. At least normally it's NOT deadly or will cause any long-term damage. These are usually little stingrays in the shallow areas.

The main reason I got stung so many times is I like to body surf and I would often jump up and my feet coming down would surprise the stingrays which causes them to lash out. I learned over time to wear booties and also to do the so-called STINGRAY SHUFFLE. 

If you keep your feet on the sand and shuffle in every direction you go rather than step or jump, they will usually hear you coming and move out of your way. In general they're NOT aggressive Nor stalking your feet but are defensive if surprised, kind of like rattlesnakes 🐍.

In a few more decades this beach and neighborhood will be considered 'GHETTO' ( the beach already is; the neighborhood not yet). It's getting there fast ... The nice neighbors put up with a lot of disrespect from people who travel here to use the beach but don't give a damn about those who live here. I hate to say it, because it'll hurt me as well, but they need to eventually start making it pay parking or restricted parking etc just to keep the people who don't give a damn about others, OUT 🚫. Almost all free beaches with free parking eventually get RUINED by those who only go to free beaches which is most of them in California unfortunately. It's one group in particular. You will find them at every FREE location. The east coast is already figured out how to stop this. Many of their beaches are "resident only" or high fee prohibitive parking. I was there this summer and I was upset about it because I'm not a resident, and thought how nice we have it in California that almost all our beaches are free. But then when I returned and immediately got insulted by some of these people who only go to free places ( not the first time) , I realized maybe it is BETTER the way they do it on the East Coast.

I won't say any names, but there's a certain ethnicity that comes here in huge numbers and they do NOT have a lot of respect for other people. Their sole focus is on their OWN unit (ie family, familia) & getting what's best for THEMSELVES. 

 More than once, I've put my towel down & gone for a 30-minute swim & I've returned to find this ethnicity has set up their camp almost TOUCHING my towel. In essence, they make it so uncomfortable for you to stay there, it is now THEIR Beach area. SHAME ON YOU. I ask for God to punish you if He agrees. 

All the while, they PRETEND like they're just fun- loving innocent little people who didn't even think about your towel being there. 

In essence, your ONLY options are to 

1) get angry and yell at them and then their whole family will start yelling back at you & they'll get others from their same ethnicity to join in with them against you; 2) or to LEAVE. 

Another time, two young males of this ethnicity walked past me and one of them intentionally BURPED very loudly right near my face. Without apology. 

My ethnicity, in general, on the other hand, values personal space & respects other people's personal space. When we arrive at the beach if we see a towel laying there we don't set up our towels right next to them. We find another space. And my ethnicity doesn't try to offend people by burping in their face. 

I want to encourage this ethnicity to try to be better and do better and show respect for people, before it's too late. I've always been one of those who has rooted for immigrants, & try to support those who come here from other countries trying to make it. 

 But you DON'T MAKE IT EASY if you don't respect the people who are already here. If you DESPISE us so much, you really should go back to where you came from. Apparently that would make you happier and probably us happier as well.

I had a close call here on Labor Day 2023. Huge waves surf advisory. I normally do a snorkel swim from Big CDM over the little CDM and back. And if there's good waves over at little cdm I do a little bodysurfing before I return. 

This was my second swim for the day. In the morning the waves were big as well but didn't seem to be so big - they were not a major challenge.

 In the afternoon however I caught a wave coming into little CDM and lost one of my fins. This slowed me down cuz I was looking for my fin. Found my fin but by the time I did the next way was coming in and I had to do a duck 🦆 dive. Also had my snorkel and mask off in one hand and now I'm holding onto one of the fins as well, making it more difficult to swim with only one hand available. 

Normally the big waves 🌊 come only a few two or three and then there's a break before the next set. But this seemed to be like a 10 or 12 wave set. They just kept coming and they were all big ones too. I'm not exaggerating. At first I was trying to go back OUT to get beyond the break. But with my hands full and only one fin I couldn't get out there. 

Two or three more waves came over and I'm holding my breath. So I realize I need to go BACK IN TO THE BEACH. Three or four more waves come over my head and I'm getting tired and unable to hold my breath for long anymore. 

By this time the lifeguard is starting to show some concern. He's standing on the beach but not in the water yet and he calls for the yellow boat to come. I think he could have come in the water a little bit earlier. He never actually did. The yellow boat arrived just as I was getting to the beach 🏖️ 

And I finally managed to scrape my way to shore literally VERY SHORT ON BREATH and holding onto my mask snorkel 🤿 & fin with both hands at this time. As I almost crawled onto shore I realized I had a crowd watching. It's kind of creepy because NOBODY shows any emotion- they just watch you like it's a TV show. Like you're on YouTube or something.

Would have been nice if somebody had said "Glad you made it. We were worried about you" or something. Needless to say I walked back to Big CDM to get my towel this time, for the first time ever. 

Makes me appreciate being able to BREATHE again.

The area below the club house used to be a good place to go snorkeling. I even saw a small shark here one time. But for some reason it's become so clogged with kelp it's almost impossible to swim through.

 Not sure what happened but  I hope it's something they can fix or will naturally fix itself. 

As for the beach by The lifeguard stand that's a mixed bag of people- some  of the sketchy people don't like the regular beach so sometimes they come here- so not always so great .  A Latino family kept throwing the soccer ball at me while I was waiting for waves to body surf. Not sure what that was all about .

Also, I don't think they comb  and groom the sand  here like they do  northward. 

 I only come here when I don't want to go up north & back to save a little gas

Um. People traveling the coastline pay huge gas ⛽ & other bills to keep their vehicle maintained, etc.... Many now in costly sprinter vans. Others in older vehicles. Some may park & enjoy a day here. These are NOT homeless people. These people are ALIVE - experiencing LIFE 😃.

 If your sense of JUSTIFICATION comes from living in ONE PLACE your whole life in a home with a mortgage & taking one vacation every summer where you "properly" stay at a hotel or an RV park or campground , good for 👉 you 👈.

 NOT everybody shares your definition of what is 'normal' or 'optimal' .

I love Latinos but when they come to Newport beach too often they are very rude towards white people, almost like they hate white people. Please DON't hate on us. We love all Latinos 👍. Y'all are great hard working people & we know you have manners & values.

 White people work hard too. We were NOT all born with silver spoons in our mouths. We enjoy the beach too. Please don't envy us. We are trying to make ends meet every day too.

Oh. I almost forgot. If you see a towel on the beach ⛱️ & nobody there it probably means they are in the water. They probably want to lie on their towel when they come out of the water. They probably don't want to be so close to you that they can touch you. 

Therefore don't set up your stuff so close. Give each other space. Don't force the person coming out of the water to move their towel if they were there first. Does that make sense ?

I was happily body surfing all by myself at redondo beach when some Latino kid went out of his way to come out by me to body surf next to me when there was PLENTY of space up and down the beach to be alone...so he approached me and said, "THIS IS GNARLY"  as if I spoke that kind of stupid surfing lingo..as if I was some dumb white boy who body surfs all day long with nothing better to do... as if he had watched a few too many old surf movies... WHO SAYS GNARLY ANYMORE ? AT least not me..and he DIDN'T even really know how to body surf.., there IS AN ART & SKILL to good body surfing..it's not just splashing in the waves.. to TRULY BODY SURF you know how to find the "SWEET SPOT" of a wave..just like in tennis.. they used to say a racquet has a "sweet spot" (maybe they still do, IDK)... BUT now I know what to call a person like this who PRETENDS to be a "surfing dude"...you call them 'KOOKS"
