I watched this seal literally body surf a wave to shore,apparently intentionally because it was so tired...& several times approached the sandy shore..briefly flopping around but returning back to the water,..as I was walking in the same direction parallel to it..by the time I got to the rocks it was climbing out & trying to rest. It obviously was very tired,but didn't look sick or injured...definitely "shark bait" at such size and especially when tired. Apparently near the end of 2013 around san pedro they had more baby seals brought in than EVER before..100's of baby seals malnourished & weak...for some reason they're having a difficult time finding food to eat.
