I didn't know seeing a hammerhead shark was such a rarity around Southern Cal but I think I did see one while I was snorkeling in Malaga cove Palos Verdes (Los Angeles county)several years ago now- maybe it was around 2015- it could have been that far back -and it was just a brief sighting in the kelp forest near shore
